It’s weird hearing Michael Jackson’s 14-year-old voice singing “Ben” right now.  I remember I was in the 2nd grade (1972) when this song became a hit.  And I cringed that he was singing so lovingly to a rat.  (This was also Bossing’s piece when he auditioned for his school glee club back in ‘72.)    But his voice was so pure, so  innocent.  And it would make you believe that, really,  you can make a pet out of a lowly house rat.  

Gone too soon…

It will be two weeks since I first heard of the sad news as it was relayed to me by my co-worker, Ms. Mary, late one night while I waited for Bossing to pick me up from work.  We scrambled to check the internet on anything about it.  The news then was still doubtful.  They said he was in a coma, they said he was rushed to a  hospital – nothing specific.  But before I left for the night, Mis. Mary confirmed… Michael is dead.

In mourning ako ngayon…

Two icons of my generation.  Farrah will always remain the beautiful Farrah to me with her never-to-be-forgotten poster-pose na naka-red na swimsuit.  And her hairdo na talagang sobrang ginagaya ko nung bata ako.
 
And Michael… 
 
Even with all the weird stuff they were saying about Michael, I always had a defense for him.  He had a magnificent life… but a very sad one.  Tsk…
 
I guess, if God would’ve asked me, I would also choose that He take him like He did – fast, sudden.  Living up to his icon image.  I don’t think I could take to hear news that he was suffering or in much pain… hindi si Michael yun.  This is how he really should go. (Altho in disbelief pa rin ako… hindi ko pa rin mareconcile.)  I always had this secret wish inside me that he would surpass all these negativity that surrounded him.  Na one day, aangat sya ulit.  Na hindi pa sya tapos – mamahalin sya ulit ng tao.   Na hindi ka weirdong titingnan kapag sinabi mong “I love Michael Jackson.” 

I guess, in a way, dininig ang dasal ko – now people choose to remember him for the greatness he was.   For the genius he will always be.
 
God, I’m really gonna miss Michael Jackson.  OA man, naluluha ako talaga while I write this.  
 
And like when Mike Francis and Francis Magalona died, buong araw akong makikinig ng mga Michael Jackson songs ko today.
 
Ps.
Isnt’ it weird… first, si Mike Francis, then si Francis Magalona, kahapon si Michael Jackson.  Naghanap ng kadamay si Mike Francis – mga kapangalan nya.
